Pavilion XI's Open Mike night and have loved their
harmonies ever since. Mike Goggin and Rusty Speidel
were both on the staff of The Declaration where I
was a writer and editor when I was at UVa 79-83. The
performances they gave, including their Concert on
The Lawn graduation week in 1983, will always be
among my best memories of Charlottesville.

Became a fan:I was introduced in the early 80's by Liz Ball. She summered with me in Maine and brought a tape. (They were just SGG then and I made fun of their names because they didn't make sense - they are a mouthful!) Girl in Red was a favorite. When I moved to Northern VA I discovered the Birchmere and saw they played there frequently! When Liz was in town last January, my sister Sarah and I went and it was pretty nostalgic for us and our summers in Maine. Now I'm psyched that I'm able to see them live on a regular basis and I've even introduced several friends.

The music world just does not know what they are missing, if they have not heard them play.I will gladly make the trip again, for this group is well worth it. I have talked a lot about them since.

Girl in Red is my favorite song, because all the girls always screamed the "she loves theatre, she loves ART" at me during the song. Mention the term "track #8" to my or my friend Pete Parker's girlfriend, and you'll get a sour response. That comes from the time we sang Far Away about 30 times in a row in the car on the way from Lynchburg to the Birchmere a couple of years ago. Seeing them live just gives me such a great feeling, bringing back so many great memories of my years in Virginia, now that I have to live in NJ. Comments:The band should put the music that they play on their home-site. Chords, they already have lyrics, tabs, riffs, ect...

Became a fan:Marya Howell is the main reason-(see her entry in
the guest book) She and I started going to the
Birchmere to see them and have hardly missed a set of
shows there since. Mike L and Tom- we are two of
the three folks that were dancing in the front row
last December to City Girl. I was also there for
the Sat show earlier this month but my dancing
partner wasn't and I figured I would sit back and
relax at the show for a change. Goggin- sorry
about the problems with the lyrics at that show. \
You handled it well! As always, you guys put on a
great show. Mike L-keep working on that solo album.
Hope the live version of 6'6" makes the cut. See
you in May and July.

in the late '80. I saw them many times, at
SBC & Hampden Sydney, etc., and everytime I
was just blown away. SG&G, SG&L, SGG&L in whatever
incarnation, were some of the best live performances
I have ever seen. Watching them sing American Pie
is a favorite memory. I still have t-shirt!

Became a fan:Well it started for me in Back Room Pav at good ole UVA.
It was my first year (so long ago back in 1982) my roommates
and I would go and listen to Tom and Rusty. We would also
go and listen to Mike (he was solo then). Then in 1983 they
became SGG. I was there the very first time (it was suppose
to be in Back Room Pav, but so many people showed up, they
had to move to the front room). I have followed
them ever since. I remeber many nights at the Mine Shaft.
I was there for the "farewell" of SGG and
the beginning of SGL, and for the "farewell" of SGGL. I am
so glad that they are still playing. I now live in Northern VA
and try and see them every time they are at the Birchmere. Wonder
how much money I have spent on these guys in the last 13!! years:
going to shows, buying T-Shirts, buying bumper stickers and buttons,
buying records (yes, they first released on vinal), tapes and CDs.
Comments:So many memories... Favorite All Time SGG song: Their version
of "American Pie". Also Tom's version of "If I Only Had a Heart"
from the Wizard of OZ and "House at Pooh Corner".

Fantastic talent! Accoustic music is so honest. Sometimes I think musicians are able to hide thier

Have attended numerous shows since then and I've introduced plenty of folks to SGGL. In fact, I've urged my sister to possibly consider counseling to control her fixation with the band. She has recently relocated to Florida and has asked me to urge the band to do some shows down there. If anyone has any pull, feel free to mention it to one of the guys. For now, I will simply tell her to stop bugging me about it.
