Inheritance

lead vocals by Tom Goodrich

(lyrics reprinted with permission)

The coast of Newfoundland is coming clear.
Cold and rocky, though distant, it is near.
Running headlong ahead the shifty breeze,
Oh Lord, I'm on my knees.

Serengeti, see it halfway 'cross the world.
Hyenas laughing in the night.
The hunted witless of the power of the gun.
Oh Lord, help them run.

We're faulty stewards of the earth, and sea and sky.
Adam named the animals and now we watch them die.
My daughter's inheritance is shrinking everyday.
While we just watch the world go away.

I watched them chasing oil on Prince William Sound.
Forests dying in Vermont.
There's poison in the northern rains and needles on the beach.
Oh Lord, is there no retreat?

I guess nothing is supposed to last forever.
Eternity's not meant for this small, fragile ball,
When the ozone's finally gone and nothing blocks our view.
Will we stand face to face with You?

We're faulty stewards of the earth, and sea and sky.
Noah saved the animals and now we watch them die.
My daughter's inheritance is shrinking every day,
While we just watch the world go away.
